Gaines Kelly Blankenship of New Port Richey, FL, a steadfast Christian and devoted patriot, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the age of 90. Born in Cleveland, VA and a lifelong East Tennessean he carried the spirit of the Appalachian Mountains with him throughout his life.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Gaines answered the call to duty and served his country with courage and honor in Korea. Upon returning home, he found his greatest joy in building a loving family where he cultivated a legacy of faith and love.
Gaines lived a life dedicated to his family and friends. A cornerstone of his community, he was known for his kindness, humor, laughter, and willingness to help whenever called upon. His legacy is marked by his unwavering support for his loved ones, his deep-rooted patriotism, and his strong Christian faith.
Gaines served as a respected deacon with First Baptist Church, leaving an enduring impact on the congregation. He participated in the church’s grounds crew keeping the trees and lawn beautiful for all to enjoy. He took great pride in ensuring the grounds were ready for Sunday services and enjoyed working alongside his fellow crew members. His commitment to his church was a testament to his deep-rooted belief and his desire to serve as an inspiration to countless individuals. He was a true friend to many and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, church, and community.
Gaines Kelly Blankenship is survived by his wife, Dana Dudek Blankenship; his daughter, Karen (Alan) Standiford; his son, Doug (Carolyn) Blankenship; five grandchildren; Andrew (Sarah) Blankenship, Reece Blankenship, Abigail Blankenship, Izabella Blankenship, Emma Blankenship, and one great-grandson Colter Blankenship, brother Jack Blankenship, sister Sally Southerland. He is preceded in death by brother Jerry Blankenship and two sisters Phyllis Kennedy, and Lois Blankenship
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nursing and caregiver team, including Debbie Puterio, Annie Reese, and Sabrina Rodriguez who went above and beyond to ensure Gaines’s comfort and well-being were always attended to. Their love, compassion, and exceptional care made a profound difference in Gaines’ life and brought peace to the family in very difficult times.
A celebration of Gaines Blankenship’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 7 th , 2024 at 3:00pm public viewing, and 4:00pm services at First Baptist Church New Port Richey 6800 Trouble Creek Road, NPR, FL 34653.
