Richard S. Gates

Richard S. Gates passed from this life into the presence of his Savior on September 27, 2024.

Rick was born on February 25, 1958 in Binghamton, New York and was predeceased by his brother Jim, and his mother Viola.

Rick is survived by his father Richard H. Gates; his brother Bruce and his wife Melanie, and their children Stacie and Michael; his brother Steve and his children Jared, Chris, Kim, and Adam; his nephew Casey; his brother Allen; and various individuals of his extended family; and stepdaughter Lisa.

Rick was a graduate of Whitney Point Sr. High. He was an avid sports enthusiast, was a team member of the varsity wrestling squad, participated in intramural sports, and took first place in free throw basketball competitions. Within his local community Rick was actively involved in; Little League Baseball and a member of his local league championship team, bowling leagues, golf, hunting, and fishing.

Over the years Rick worked in various occupational employment. His employers always acknowledged Rick's consistent work ethic in skilled fields; CDL driver, heavy equipment operator, home improvement, residential construction, pool maintenance, landscaping and property maintenance.

Rick's love and enthusiasm for sports continued into his adult life. When male and female competitions were broadcast, Rick was a cheering spectator. From the college to pro level, Rick was a fan of baseball, softball, golf, football, basketball, and bowling. When he wasn't watching sports at home, his family and friends knew he would be at his favorite sports bar and grill, ready to share a meal with friends and family. Rick was known for his warm and cheerful nature, and generous heart toward others. For that reason, he was affectionately addressed as and replied to "Gator," "Buddy Ro," and "Rickles." He would often respond to those beloved names with a smile on his face, a beverage in his hand, and his arm in the air.

From the ones who knew you, loved you, and now miss you, as you rest from the toils of this life, in your Savior's loving embrace, anticipating our arrival, "Here's to you Rick, Cheers!"
