Owen Tyler Sarwatka

September 19, 1994 — April 17, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Owen Sarwatka on Sunday, April 17th, 2022. We have been blessed to have shared our lives with Owen over the last 27 years, and his love continues to fill our hearts. Owen had a passion for making a difference and being a positive influence in the lives of others. Community minded, equality driven and very passionately pursued and inspired others to do the same. He made a difference. He began scouting and achieved the highest honor of Eagle Scout, receiving accolades from not only his friends and family, but US Presidents and heads of many government organizations. He was the recipient of the NY Yankees HOPE Award (Helping Others Persevere & Excel) and the Anne Frank Humanitarian Award in 2012, given for His outstanding acts of good will and efforts to inspire hope within the community. Many “kindness” seeds planted that have surely sprouted around our nation. Owen relentlessly pursued his education and began serving in his chosen field of physical therapy. Owen spent a great deal of his teenaged years in hospitals undergoing dozens of medical procedures and did so with tremendous courage. He chose his profession from the empathy he developed over these years and wished to dedicate his life to help people that were suffering. He was not only an excellent baseball player, receiving a college scholarship, he was very passionate about the history and players. Stories within stories. He loved visiting stadiums and watching games. He found a beautiful way to tie in his passion for people and baseball by creating “Fields of Friends” a program to help educate and empower others about the struggles of living with disabilities and the need for inclusion. He also loved to travel and was blessed with many great adventures to cherish. Owen left an amazing legacy to us all and has touched the hearts of so many people. He showed kindness, empathy and compassion to people that were hurting; generosity to people that were in need; showing forgiveness to people before they hurt him; and, sharing his unconditional love for all that knew him. We continue to be inspired by his love and strength. We will let his compassion and courage be our guiding light and we will strive every day to become better people by following his example. We love you Owen and are so very proud that you shared your life with us! Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 23 from 10AM-12 noon at the Mary Help of Christians Center baseball field. **bring your lawn chair or picnic blanket In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Owens 501 C3 -Fields of Friends all donations will go directly to funding a scholarship in his honor.
